A note from Amber

Hey, there. 👋 And welcome to the fortnightly INFJ writers club newsletter! (I noticed I haven’t been changing the issue number on the graphic above with the last couple of issues, so for the perfectionists among us—read: everyone here, including me—I will not be changing them as a matter of personal growth. It’s for our own good.)
Okay so, today aside, it has not been a great two weeks in the writing department. Admittedly, today has been great, but I do wish the ratio would flip, because I’m having way more bad days in a row before a good day shows itself.
But, I shouldn’t complain, better to say that about writing than life, right? And I’ma doin’ alright. (That song’s played on my Pandora a few times lately, and it’s staying on my mind. 😁)
So, on that note, let’s get to the issue.
INFJ Writer Problem № 4: We’re not willing to scratch and thrash
One more thing that trips us up about writing
by Amber Krowiarz | 25 Feb 2024
The last couple of weeks I’ve been trying to figure out what in the world I’m doing with the Bibliotherapy club. I have no idea, and anytime I think I have an idea, I quickly lose sight of it, start thinking it’s dumb, or too unwieldy or whatever.
I’ve gone back to the drawing board on it so many times now, or at least that’s how it feels. (Objectively I know that’s not true, because I can still recite the original idea / “About” blurb for it from years ago.)
I just finished writing its newsletter (first one in a month), and as I wrapped up, I mentioned in the post-postscript the idea of “scratching” or “thrashing” from Twyla Tharp and Seth Godin respectively.
As I came over to the INFJ club to start this issue, I realized that’s one more thing that trips us up about writing, not being willing to scratch and thrash.
2 things that might change your life
(Discovered or remembered over the last fortnight)
by Amber Krowiarz | 25 Feb 2024
In the writing / reading / creating department … I’m looking forward to getting past the front cover of Lynda Barry’s What It Is! I’ve had it on my desk since I got it this week / last week, and the cover alone inspires me to make something!
Also in the creating department … I loved this video and story of Mr. Imazaki’s Imaya Hamburger (and hot dog stand). It’s easy to see the meaning of things when you see someone create a beautiful life from the simplest of circumstances. If it weren’t for competing with Grandpa Imazaki, I was about ready to chuck it all, move to Japan, and start a hot dog stand (not that I’d be any competition for Mr. Imazaki anyway).
That’s about as far as I was able to get this week, but the video’s a half-hour, so it’s probably better I stop anyway!
In case you missed it …
